Outdoor Voice.

Like so many of my generation, I spent huge chunks of my childhood outdoors and unregulated! I spent long summers camping or cycling away from home as far as I dared. I am hugely aware that within one generation, we have virtually lost that sense of the outdoors being free and full of potential. I want to keep reconnecting with nature and finding ways to celebrate and engage the next generation with this offering.

When it comes to using your voice and singing outdoors there are many professional pitfalls. It’s hard work singing outdoors especially if it is windy or you are cold! But the joy of playground songs and dances in a protected park as celebration or the sense of community created by singing accumulative songs or story songs round a campfire is completely unrivaled for me!

So voicing outdoors is worth the risk and worth negotiating with the weather for!

Very generously in 2024 the Arts Council funded my research and development in this area and so amongst other things i am exploring land ownership laws, going on inspiring outdoor projects and seeing performances. I am looking at better ways to sing IN the outdoors and ABOUT the outdoors, so that I can support a connection or a reconnection with nature over and over in a deeper more meaningful way.
